One reaction I\u2019ve seen when people learn about all the compatibility work done in the Windows 95 kernel is to say,<\/p>\n

\u5f53\u4eba\u4eec\u5bf9 Windows 95 \u5185\u6838\u6240\u4f5c\u51fa\u7684\u517c\u5bb9\u6027\u52aa\u529b\u53d1\u8868\u610f\u89c1\u65f6\uff0c\u6211\u6240\u77e5\u7684\u5176\u4e2d\u4e00\u6761\u662f\uff1a<\/p>\n

Why not add code to the installer wizard<\/a> [alas, page is now 404] which checks to see if you\u2019re installing SimCity and, if so, informs you of a known design flaw, then asks you to visit Electronic Arts\u2019 webpage for a patch?<\/p>\n

\u4e3a\u4ec0\u4e48\u4e0d\u5728\u5b89\u88c5\u7a0b\u5e8f\u91cc\u52a0\u4e00\u884c\u4ee3\u7801\uff08\u53ef\u60dc\u8fd9\u4e2a\u9875\u9762\u5df2\u7ecf404\u4e86\uff09\uff08\u8bd1\u6ce8\uff1a\u6240\u4ee5\u8fd9\u91cc\u5c31\u4e0d\u518d\u5f15\u7528\u5931\u6548\u94fe\u63a5\u4e86\uff09\uff0c\u8ba9\u5b83\u53ef\u4ee5\u68c0\u6d4b\u5230\u4f60\u662f\u4e0d\u662f\u6b63\u5728\u5b89\u88c5\u300a\u6a21\u62df\u57ce\u5e02\u300b\uff0c\u5982\u679c\u662f\u7684\u8bdd\uff0c\u5c31\u63d0\u9192\u4f60\u6e38\u620f\u91cc\u7684bug\uff0c\u7136\u540e\u5e2e\u4f60\u6253\u5f00EA\u7684\u7f51\u7ad9\u53bb\u4e0b\u8f7d\u8865\u4e01\u5462\uff1f<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Let\u2019s ignore the issue of the \u201cinstaller wizard\u201d; most people do not go through the Add and Remove Programs control panel to install programs, so any changes to that control panel wouldn\u2019t have helped anyway.<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u91cc\u6211\u4eec\u5148\u5ffd\u7565\u300e\u5b89\u88c5\u7a0b\u5e8f\u300f\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bf4\u6cd5\uff0c\u6bd5\u7adf\u5927\u591a\u6570\u4eba\u662f\u4e0d\u4f1a\u8dd1\u5230\u63a7\u5236\u9762\u677f\u7684\u300e\u6dfb\u52a0\/\u5220\u9664\u7a0b\u5e8f\u300f\u91cc\u53bb\u5b89\u88c5\u65b0\u5e94\u7528\u7684\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u5bf9\u63a7\u5236\u9762\u677f\u505a\u51fa\u53d8\u52a8\u5e76\u6ca1\u6709\u4ec0\u4e48\u5e2e\u52a9\u3002<\/p>\n

But what about detecting that you\u2019re running SimCity and telling you to get a patch from Electronic Arts\u2019 web site?<\/p>\n

\u59d1\u4e14\u8bf4\uff0c\u7cfb\u7edf\u80fd\u4e0d\u80fd\u505a\u5230\u68c0\u6d4b\u4f60\u5f00\u542f\u4e86\u300a\u6a21\u62df\u57ce\u5e02\u300b\uff0c\u7136\u540e\u901a\u77e5\u4f60\u53bbEA\u7684\u7f51\u7ad9\u4e0a\u4e0b\u8f7d\u8865\u4e01\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n

Remember, this was 1993. Almost nobody had web sites. The big thing was the \u201cInformation Superhighway\u201d. (Remember that? I don\u2019t think it ever got built; the Internet sort of stole its thunder.) If you told somebody, \u201cGo to Electronic Arts\u2019 web site and download a patch\u201d, you\u2019d get a blank stare. What\u2019s a \u201cweb site\u201d? How do I access that from Prodigy? I don\u2019t have a modem. Can you mail me their web site?<\/p>\n

\u8bf7\u8bb0\u4f4f\uff0c\u90a3\u662f1993\u5e74\uff0c\u57fa\u672c\u4e0a\u6ca1\u4ec0\u4e48\u4eba\u5f00\u8bbe\u4e86\u300e\u7f51\u7ad9\u300f\u8fd9\u79cd\u4e1c\u897f\uff0c\u90a3\u65f6\u5019\u7684\u70ed\u95e8\u8bdd\u9898\u53eb\u300e\u4fe1\u606f\u9ad8\u901f\u516c\u8def\u300f\u3002\uff08\u8fd8\u8bb0\u5f97\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bcd\u5417\uff1f\u6211\u53cd\u6b63\u6ca1\u8bb0\u5f97\u8fd9\u4e1c\u897f\u5efa\u6210\u4e86\u6ca1\u6709\uff0c\u300e\u4e92\u8054\u7f51\u300f\u628a\u5b83\u7684\u98ce\u5934\u5168\u62a2\u5c3d\u4e86\u3002\uff09\u5982\u679c\u90a3\u5e74\u5934\u4f60\u8ddf\u522b\u4eba\u8bf4\u300e\u53bbEA\u7684\u7f51\u7ad9\u4e0a\u4e0b\u4e2a\u8865\u4e01\u300f\uff0c\u5f97\u5230\u7684\u53ea\u80fd\u662f\u4e00\u8138\u832b\u7136\uff1a\u300e\u7f51\u7ad9\u300f\u662f\u561b\u73a9\u610f\uff1f\u6211\u600e\u4e48\u8bbf\u95ee\u5b83\uff1f\u6211\u5bb6\u53c8\u6ca1\u6709\u8c03\u5236\u89e3\u8c03\u5668\uff0c\u4f60\u80fd\u628a\u4ed6\u4eec\u7684\u7f51\u7ad9\u5bc4\u7ed9\u6211\u5417\uff1f<\/p>\n

In Windows XP, when Windows detects that you\u2019re running a program with which it is fundamentally incompatible, you do get a pop-up window directing you to the company\u2019s web site. But that\u2019s because it\u2019s now 2005 and even hermits living in caves have email addresses.<\/p>\n

\u5728 Windows XP \u4e2d\uff0c\u5f53 Windows \u68c0\u6d4b\u5230\u4f60\u8fd0\u884c\u7684\u7a0b\u5e8f\u5b58\u5728\u5b8c\u5168\u4e0d\u517c\u5bb9\u7684\u60c5\u51b5\u65f6\uff0c\u4f60\u7684\u786e\u4f1a\u5f97\u5230\u4e00\u9879\u63d0\u793a\uff0c\u5c06\u4f60\u5bfc\u5411\u5f00\u53d1\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8f6f\u4ef6\u7684\u516c\u53f8\u7684\u7f51\u7ad9\u3002\u4f46\u8fd9\u662f\u56e0\u4e3a\u8fd9\u65f6\u5df2\u7ecf\u662f2005\u5e74\u4e86\uff0c\u5c31\u8fde\u4f4f\u5728\u5c71\u6d1e\u91cc\u7684\u9690\u58eb\u90fd\u6709\u7535\u5b50\u90ae\u4ef6\u5730\u5740\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n

In 1993, things were a little different.<\/p>\n
